31名の2型糖尿病患者に対し，少量のサイアザイド利尿薬をSGLT2阻害薬のイプラグリフロジンへ変更したところ，3ヶ月後に血圧は不変であり，空腹時血糖，HbA1c，尿酸値は有意に低下，BMIと内臓脂肪面積は有意に減少した．

2型糖尿病患者におけるSGLT2阻害薬，GLP-1受容体作動薬およびDPP-4阻害薬の臨床的効果をネットワークメタ回帰分析という手法を用いて比較検討した結果， SGLT2阻害薬およびGLP-1受容体作動薬は， DPP-4阻害薬およびプラセボ（または非投与）に比べて全死亡，心血管死亡率および心不全発症数が有意に低いという結果であった．
