1型DMにおいて抑うつの有病率は実際はそれほど高くない(3.8％～11.4％)DMでない人々の有病率をほとんど変わらなかった。
PHQ－８は偽陽性率が高く、それは抑うつの重症度は判定できるかが原因や内容を示さないからである。
1型DMの人の"慢性で大変な病気である"というストレスや他の生活におけるストレスに介入すれば、必ずしも精神科介入は必要ないかもしれない。
