3-OHB は、心保護及び血行動態改善に寄与することが示唆された。その効果は用量依存症である。当研究では3-OHB 投与による有害性は認めなかった。

VADT で中央値5.6年間 厳格治療群に割り当てられた2型糖尿病の参加者は、その後の経過観察でHbA1c に差があった期間にのみ標準治療群より心血管イベントのリスクが低かったが、15年のフォローアップでは厳格な血糖コントロールによるレガシー効果または死亡率改善のエビデンスは認められなかった。
