2011-2012の米国全国健康調査による糖尿病の有病率は12.4％で1988-97の9.8と比較し増加、未診断例は減少傾向である。未診断例はアジア人に多い(アジア人の糖尿病有病率のうち50％以上を占める)
有病率は2007-2008年以降増加傾向はなし、肥満患者の割合が一定になったデータと一致する。

Discussion：
深い潰瘍、浸出液、悪臭、創部周囲および前脛骨の浮腫、発熱、CRP上昇が感染した糖尿病足潰瘍の患者における下肢切断の独立した予測因子であることがわかった。また、IWGDFシステムよりも予測価値の高い切断に対する新しいリスクスコアを考案した。これについてはさらなるstudyにより検証される必要がある。
