2015年度において、新たに認定された18歳以上の視覚障害者は12,505人で、その原因疾患は、緑内障(28.6％)、 網膜色素変性(14.0％) 、糖尿病網膜症(12.8％)、加齢黄斑変性(8.0％)の順であった。緑内障の視覚障害者数は増加し、糖尿病網膜症と加齢黄斑変性は減少していた。
