Discussion：
・年齢と性別が mean-IMT と相関し、以前の研究と同様である。
・対象において、毎年 mean-IMT の増加は 0.012±0.025mm/year であり、健康人の0.008mm/year (Japanの過去研究)より大きかった。
・esRAGE, sRAGEとmean-IMT 変化に有意な負の相関が認められ、esRAGE, sRAGE 低値は動脈硬化進行に繋がると考えられる。
・4年後の esRAGE, sRAGE 値と観察開始時と殆ど変化なく、観察時間内の安定性が判明された。今後、血清 esRAGE, sRAGE 値を測定し、動脈硬化や糖尿病細小血管合併症の予知できる可能性はある。

・膵臓疾患に続いて発症する糖尿病は、血糖コントロール不良および早期インスリン治療と有意に関連付けられるが、外分泌膵臓の糖尿病としては稀にしか識別されない。・臨床医は、最初に糖尿病に罹患したときに患者が膵臓病の病歴を有するかどうかを明らかにし、外分泌膵臓の糖尿病の診断を考慮に入れる必要がある。

糖尿病患者において、感染症が死の引き金となった原死因と捉えた場合と、死につながった様々な要素のうちの1つと捉えた場合を比較した時、前者のアプローチでは感染症の死への影響を過小評価している可能性があることが示唆された。

突発性難聴からの回復率は、メタボ患者では有意に低かった。メタボの診断基準 5 項目のうち 4 項目以上を満たす場合、特に予後不良。
