糖尿病スティグマとは、糖尿病を理由にネガティブに判断され、社会的アイデンティティが不当に損なわれることを指し、内在化すると自己管理やQOLに悪影響を及ぼす。過去の研究からT1D・T2D成人の多くがスティグマを経験していることが報告されているが、国際比較は限られていた。本研究はこのギャップに対応し、DSAS（Diabetes Stigma Assessment Scale）を用いて6か国11研究（参加者9,700名）の二次分析を行った。その結果、T1Dの91％、T2Dの77％がスティグマを経験し、下位尺度で最も多いのは「非難と判断」であった。T1Dでは「アイデンティティ懸念」、T2Dでは「自己スティグマ」も高率に報告された。日本のT1D参加者の多くが、他国と比較して自己管理行動が周囲から『見られること』に不安を感じており、文化的背景が影響している可能性が示唆された。本研究は国際的な協力によるスティグマ対策の必要性を支持している
