スタチン療法は年齢に関係なく主要血管イベントを減少させる。75 歳超の患者の1 次予防については直接的な効果は明確ではなかったが、血管閉塞リスクの高い患者においては使用が考慮される。

遺伝的な日本人において、肥満がなければ炭水化物・糖類の摂取割合は糖尿病の発症に有意な関係はみられなかった。
しかし、糖類の多量摂取は肥満をもたらす。
