2型糖尿病患者約800万人のコホート調査において過去10年間で2型糖尿病，大血管合併症・細小血管症の発症率と有病率の増加が観察された．
若年の2型糖尿病発症とその関連合併症が増加しており，若年層において早期スクリーニング検査が重要であると考えられる．

MACEの発生率はSGLT-2阻害薬とGLP-1受容体作動薬の両治療群と比較して併用療法群で低かった（HR = 0.154、95％CI 0.038-0.622、P = 0.009対GLP-1受容体作動薬、HR = 0.170、95％CI 0.046-0.633、P = 0.008対SGLT-2阻害薬）。併用群では、SGLT-2阻害薬およびGLP-1受容体作動薬と比較して、MSI＞50％の患者の割合が高かった。
